How Junk Removal Pricing Works in South Florida

Junk removal in South Florida is priced by volume. What fraction of the truck your pile fills, not the hour and not the item. Labor, the carry, the sweep-up and every landfill fee are already inside that one number. Why the price is volume and not hours

A crew walks the pile, says which fraction of the truck it fills, and writes it down before anything moves. Hourly billing charges you for a long carry and a hot afternoon. Per-item billing turns a garage into an argument over whether a bag of clothes and a lamp is one item or two. Volume is the only unit both sides can see from ten feet away.

A standard junk truck holds 14 to 18 cubic yards, roughly six to eight pickup beds. Every fraction on this page is measured against that truck. We get paid in cubic yards and the pumps are free.

One number covers all of this:

• The crew and the truck
• All the lifting and carrying, from the back yard, the attic or the third floor
• Loading and hauling
• Sweeping up afterward
• Every landfill, transfer station and recycling fee

What a quarter, a half and a full truck actually hold

That is the whole vocabulary, and it is checkable. Stand in the garage, decide which row you are looking at, and you can sanity-check any quote you are given, including ours.

One thing, one price

Most calls are not a whole house. They are one couch, one dead fridge, one treadmill that has been a coat rack for two years. Every hauler in Broward has a minimum on those, because the truck, the fuel and the tipping fee at the scale house on Wiles Road cost the same whether the load is one mattress or a bedroom set. So if you are already at the minimum, add the other three things you have been meaning to lose. Most of those calls are furniture removal or appliance removal.

What moves the number

• The carry. A sofa in a driveway and a sofa at the back of a yard are two different jobs. Distance from the pile to where the truck can stand is the biggest variable after volume, and the one people forget to mention.
• Stairs and walk-ups. Much of the housing here is 1970s and 80s two- and three-story condo buildings with exterior stairs and no service elevator. Wynmoor, Century Village East, Kings Point, Sunrise Lakes. A sleeper sofa comes down by hand, one flight at a time.
• Gates and pool cages. Nearly every 1970s and 80s single-family home in Coral Springs or Sunrise has a screened pool cage and a side gate around three feet wide. Hot tubs, pool tables and gym equipment get dismantled and carried through instead of lifted over.
• Density. Concrete, tile, brick, dirt, sod and roofing hit the truck weight limit long before they fill it, so a dense load is worked out by weight. Half a truck of drywall and half a truck of pillows are not the same job.
• Condo logistics. High-rise associations on the barrier island and the Galt Mile want a certificate of insurance naming the association, a reserved freight elevator, floor protection and a loading-dock slot. Many ban weekend moves. That is scheduling, not volume.
• Hurricane season. June through November. After a storm every yard in the county needs the same service in the same week. Clearing the garage in May is an easier week than clearing it in September.

The line items that belong on the quote, not on the invoice

Every one of these should be said out loud before you agree to anything. The complaint people have about haulers is never the number. It is the line item nobody mentioned until the truck was loaded.

• Refrigerant recovery. Fridges, freezers, window and wall A/C units. The refrigerant is recovered by a certified handler before disposal, so an appliance with a compressor is never handled like a dryer.
• E-waste handling. TVs, monitors and computers go to a permitted electronics recycler rather than the landfill. Old CRT and rear-projection sets are the awkward ones.
• Mattress recycling. Charged by the transfer station and passed straight through, per piece.
• Tires. They go to a permitted waste-tire processor rather than the landfill.
• Stairs and long carries. A sofa down three flights is a different job from a sofa in a driveway. Pretending otherwise is how a quote changes on arrival.
• Disassembly. Hot tubs cut down where they sit, pool tables, home gyms, sheds, racks bolted together inside the room they stand in.

Your city already hauls some of this for free

Every city in the service area runs a free curbside bulk program with a cubic-yard cap, and the caps are small. This is the part that saves you the most.

• Coral Springs. Six cubic yards per bulk day, no more than two of it construction debris. A bathroom tear-out has no curbside path. More on junk removal in Coral Springs.
• Pompano Beach. Four cubic yards a week, published as a pile roughly 6 ft by 4 ft by 4 ft. The tightest weekly cap in north Broward. More on junk removal in Pompano Beach.
• Margate and Tamarac. Three cubic yards a week, about three washing machines side by side. Tamarac condos get bulk only once a month.
• Coconut Creek. Weekly with Republic Services, but electronics, anything left in a cardboard box or paper bag, and construction material beyond minor home remodeling are all refused.
• Fort Lauderdale and Oakland Park. Ten cubic yards, once a month. Miss your week and the pile sits for another four.
• Boca Raton. Two cubic yards free, and bulk has to be kept in a separate pile from vegetation or the crew leaves both.

How to get an accurate number in one call

1. Text a photo of the pile.
2. Say what is in it. A fridge, mattresses, tile from the bathroom.
3. Say where it sits. Curb, back yard, second floor, behind a gate, up an outside stairwell.
4. Get the number in writing before anything is loaded.
5. Pay after it is in the truck.
